Bronx Woman Convicted of Assaulting NYPD Arrested For Witness Tampering

A pregnant Bronx woman convicted of assaulting an NYPD sergeant and yanking a giant patch of hair from the cop’s scalp was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday.

Instead she was arrested, handcuffed and carted off to jail for tampering with witnesses, prosecutors said.

KeKe Cufee, 25, was rearrested in the hallway of Bronx Supreme Court. Her lawyer, Laura Pitter, said she did not know why her client was arrested.

Pitter appeared stunned when Bronx Assistant District Attorney Nicole Garretson asked Supreme Court Justice Margaret Clancy to postpone the sentencing.

Bronx High School Students ‘Shadow’  Fordham Undergraduates

Not too many 15-year-olds can say they’ve attended classes at Fordham University. But Shawntel Jones, a sophomore from the Pablo Neruda Academy in the Bronx, did just that as part of the Office of Multicultural Affairs’ College Shadow Program – a weeklong event in which the youngsters teamed up with Fordham undergraduates as a way to gain insight into the college experience.

Jones said the classes on “Effective Speaking” and “Affirmative Action and the American Dream” she attended during the week of Nov. 5 with her mentor, Fordham College at Rose Hill senior Jasmine Velazquez, 21, were anything but boring.

“The [professors] actually get to know their students,” said Jones, who plans to attend college to become an engineer. “I enjoyed the back and forth between student and teacher. It was great.”

Bronx Science Students Present The Science Of Being Fed Up & Walk-out

1/16/2008

A student walkout yesterday at the Bronx High School of Science is airing long simmering discontent with the school’s principal, Valerie Reidy.

Between 150 and 200 students walked out of the school at around 10:45 a.m. yesterday denouncing Ms. Reidy in chants and calling for her firing, people who attended the rally or had knowledge of it said.

The spectacle of the rally, which a source said lasted for more than an hour, attracted several television cameras.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Education, Marge Feinberg, said Ms. Reidy told her that the protest was the result of a misunderstanding. Students believed they were protesting the ousting of a teacher, but that was not the case.

“No tenured teacher is being fired,” Ms. Feinberg said.
