I was sad to learn that Darrell Rasner will no longer pitch for the New York Yankees. No, seriously.
He did have his good moments with the Bronx Bombers, but admittedly, overall they were few and far between.
As a graduate of the University of Nevada, located in my newly adopted home state, I was pulling for him.
The Yankees reached an agreement to sell the contract of the righty pitcher to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League for $1 million
I guess that extra million in the Steinbrenners’ coffers can help offset the $140 million currently being offered to free agent pitcher CC Sabathia.
A rotation of Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Ben Sheets, Mike Mussina, and Rasner would’ve been a World Series lock. So the Yankees would’ve lost every fifth game—they can’t win ‘em all.
Rasner went 5-10 with a 5.40 ERA in 24 games and 20 starts with the Yankees last season.
Anyway, it doesn’t mean I’m going to trade my pinstripes for sipping sake and eating sushi while watching the Golden Eagles or anything, but I do sincerely wish Rasner better success in the land of the rising sun.
