The Bronx Wanderers Bring Cool Rock to Germonds

Performance part of the Town of Clarkstown’s summer concert series.

Summer fun at Clarkstown park continued Wednesday night with The Bronx Wanderers performing at Germonds Park as part of the Town of Clarkstown’s summer concert series.

The town is planning on adding more concerts in August to the nine already set in place, said JoAnne Pederson, the superintendent of Clarkstown Recreation and Parks. The concerts already in place are part of the Family Music Festival.

“We’re still finalizing the dates and everything, but we’re looking to have about four more concerts,” she said.

Germonds Park is the site of five of this summer’s concerts. Coming up next: July 14 (the THE BAND band), July 21 (The Peter Spink Band) and July 28 (John Fogarty). All concerts are free, without reserved seating and on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.

At Congers Park, concerts are also free, but held on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. On July 13, The Kootz will perform, followed by The Magic Touch on July 27.

The West Nyack Hamlet Green holds two concerts this summer on Thursdays. First up is Manhattan Jazz tonight, and the second show is the Richard Reiter Swing Band on July 22.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor leaves Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown

 DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

The verdict is in: Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is more than happy to rule on the city’s tastiest Chinese restaurant - but just don’t ask her about Lindsay Lohan.

The Daily News caught up with the Bronx-born Sotomayor outside Joe’s Shanghai restaurant in Chinatown on Wednesday after she noshed on soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, braised bean curd with spinach and a host of other Chinese treats.

“I had a great lunch,” crowed Sotomayor. “It’s my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city.”

Sotomayor breezed into the Pell St. eatery about 1:45 p.m., surrounded by a handful of her pals and two security guards.

Seated at a circular table in the back of the restaurant, the nation’s first Latina Supreme Court justice and her friends dined for more than an hour. Sotomayor washed down her meal with jasmine tea and water.

The bill, split between her group, totaled $98 - and Sotomayor tipped her usual 30%, said manager Jigang Zhang.

“She’s a nice person and very friendly,” added Zhang. “We’re very proud to serve our food to such an important person.”

Sotomayor raved about the dumplings.

“That’s what they’re famous for,” she said. Read more..

NEW YORK — Brian Cashman spoke in vague terms, keeping his cards close to the vest as he answered trade questions about Cliff Lee, the bullpen and the bench. But there was one trade he didn’t have a problem talking about.

When Cashman plucked Nick Swisher from the Chicago White Sox in the fall of 2008, Swisher was coming off the worst year of his career with a batting average that had plummeted to just .219. Two years later, Cashman finds himself campaigning for his World Champion right fielder to claim the final spot on the American League All-Star Squad.

“Thankfully Nick has come here and gotten back on track,” he said. “That was a good move.”
