Abducted Baby Girl Found Safe in Stolen Car in The Bronx

THE BRONX — An abducted baby girl was found safe in The Bronx Tuesday evening, just over an hour after her horrified parents discovered that their car had been stolen with the child inside, police and witnesses said.East Kingsbridge Road

The 7-month-old girl’s parents had parked their Jeep Cherokee on East Kingsbridge Road between Morris and Creston avenues — leaving the keys in the car and the child unattended in the backseat — when a suspect stole the car about 6:30 p.m. and drove away, police said.

The abduction set off a frantic search for the child, which ended when the Jeep was found nearby on Jerome Avenue about 7:45 p.m. with the baby girl inside and apparently unharmed, police said.

Police were searching for the suspect Tuesday evening.

Witnesses described a scene of panic on East Kingsbridge Road as the child’s parents realized their daughter was missing.

“She was screaming, ‘They stole my baby!’” Richard Martinez, 55, who lives nearby, said of the child’s mother.

Martinez added, “Why you gonna leave your child in the car with the keys in your car in The Bronx?”
