Bronx, New York City: As part of its ongoing campaign to foster school community relations, Middle School 206 is holding its Third Annual Health and Multicultural Community Fair on June 20, 2009. This event provides access to needed resources for the community, celebrates the culture of the school and its community and showcases the school and its students. In addition to more than 30 exhibiting vendors, there will be music, games, lots of giveaways, a cultural exhibition, displays of students’ work and school achievements and a food court. Vendors will be showcasing services that can be accessed by the community – health care, immigration, teenage pregnancy, wellness, legal, housing, governmental, substance and other abuse, various disabilities, recreational.
Also, this year, MS 206 is inaugurating a special annual award given to any individual or entity that has been/is an enterprising partner and/or strong supporter of the school.
According to a spokesperson for the planning committee, “Our school and community are significantly immigrant and Hispanic and through this fair we are hoping that new horizons would be opened up for our students and members of the community in order to foster an enhanced quality of life. Simultaneously, we expect that the fair would serve to foster self-esteem and develop a greater appreciation of what it means to live in a multicultural community.
