All things considered, 2007 wasn’t the worst of times for the Bronx, and there were some high spots that came close to making it the best of times.

So herewith, a final look at some of the major and minor stories of the year that was, and let’s hope it’s all uphill in 2008.

Development - and some growing pains

Filtration flap - That controversial giant underground water filtration project in Van Cortlandt Park continued to grab headlines, starting the year with the winning bidder pulling out of the project, a water leakage problem and cost overruns tripling the price and sending it up to an estimated $3 billion.

Play ball - Work was well underway for a new Yankee Stadium due to open April 2009, but not without continuing debate - about just how much replaced parkland will actually be green, to parking garages with controversial financing and the possibility they will wind up playing a role in Mayor Bloomberg’s Manhattan congestion pricing scheme.
