Bartender Ellie Okronglo serves up some good wine and grub at Bruckner Bar and Grill.

 Along the southern edge of the Bronx lies a budding artist community. Once known as the Mott Haven antiques district, the older shops have been replaced by cafés, gardening stores and galleries. It’s a unique place to visit.

Mediterranean dishes such as lamb and vegetable kebabs, as well as hummus and Mediterranean platters, are popular treats. The restaurant serves brunch on the weekends from noon to 4 p.m., and you can try such treats like huevos rancheros for $9, eggs Benedict for $10.50 or French toast and fruit for $7.25. Best of all, you can get a mimosa or Bloody Mary for $3 with any brunch item.

The Bruckner Bar and Grill is a great hangout spot for locals who enjoy karaoke, which is featured every Friday night. There’s also a gallery where artists can display their work.

 Bronxite John Melton checks out audio equipment at Bronx Speakers Store on Boston Road and says he likes to blast car stereo, to the chagrin of many.

 You wouldn’t know it from all the noise, but the Bronx has gotten quieter this year.

Bronxites logged almost 8% fewer noise complaints to the city’s 311 hotline during the first six months of this year than they did over the same period last year.

There were 28,915 noise complaints from Jan. 1 to the end of June, compared with 31,411 last year.

“I have to give some credit to the weather,” said Councilman James Vacca (D-East Bronx). “We’ve had a mild summer so far and a lot of rain and those are both circumstances that are detriments to noise. That’s got to be a contributing factor.”

“I’m not surprised. It seems to be less noisy,” said George Dallas, 72, of Morris Park. “It’s just people blowing their horns. But that’s New York drivers. You have to live with it.”

For the second year in a row, Community Board 7, which includes Norwood, University Heights, Jerome Park, Bedford Park, Fordham and Kingsbridge Heights topped the list with the most noise complaints in the borough.

A 6-year-old girl was fighting for her life Saturday night a day after a speeding livery car in the Bronx slammed into the minivan she was riding in, killing the cab driver.

The girl, in critical condition at Lincoln Hospital, was a passenger in a 1993 Nissan Quest driven by a 22-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend, who were also injured in the crash, police said.

The couple, who had been baby-sitting the girl, were in serious condition at Lincoln Hospital late Saturday. Their names have not been released.

Gregorio Pimentel, 53, was killed in the Longwood crash. The Bronx man, who was alone in the 2004 Lincoln Town Car, died at the scene. Read more..
