Jose Rivera has to fill the county clerk’s spot after Christine Quinn (below) promoted Hector Diaz.
While Bronx Political Seats Need Filling .. Speculation Makes Them Hotseats
The guessing game is now on over whom Bronx Dem boss Jose Rivera will pick to fill the county clerk’s seat now that Council speaker Chris Quinn has picked the current clerk, Hector Diaz, to be the 174G-a-year city clerk.
Jose was away in New Hampshire campaigning for Hillary, but putting it together from a few sources, close and otherwise, he faces two issues replacing Diaz:
- 1) a party that’s become increasingly disgruntled over his ethnic cronyism and nepotism, and
- 2) how it affects son and Council majority leader Joel in his Bronx BP bid. “Everything revolves around Joel,” sayeth one source.
While the non-Latino faction of the party has been griping about exclusion, a lot of Bronx Dems of all shades are saying Poppa Rivera’s all-in-the-family attitude has become an open embarrassment - Joel, daughter Naomi in the assembly, both their spouses on city payrolls, and son Rodney in Senate Democratic leader Malcolm Smith’s press office. Stay tuned.
