Joe Torre takes book tour to TV on ‘Live With Regis and Kelly’ Wednesday
It was worse than Mariano Rivera blowing a save, or watching Kyle Farnsworth get the ball with a four-run lead.
Disgruntled Yankee fans gave Borders bookstore a Bronx cheer after waiting in line for more than three hours Wednesday afternoon, only to be turned away without getting a chance to meet Joe Torre and have him sign copies of “The Yankee Years,” the book he co-authored with Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci.
On the second and final day of his Big Apple tour, Torre was scheduled to sign books for an hour at Borders, located at the corner of Broadway and Wall St.
But there was confusion among a couple hundred customers who believed they were guaranteed to meet Torre - regardless of how long it took - because they had lined up before Borders employees started turning people away.
“I’m ready to kill someone. I’m livid,” a woman was overheard talking into her cell phone as she stormed out. “It’s a disgrace. People waiting all this time, it’s a sin.”
