Lance Cpl. Edwin Marrero, U.S.M.C., your past beckons.

Two battered photo albums testify to the South Bronx life you put on hold when you shipped off to Vietnam as a teenage jarhead in 1969. Carmen vows, on the back of the prints, that she misses and needs you. Martha, primly friendly, sends her love. You look downright suave at a club with another girl, drinks on the table and cigarette in hand. And there are your relatives, getting goofy at home while you were slogging through rice paddies.
Forty years ago, in Vietnam, you gave these albums to Mike Torres, a fellow Marine from Jersey City, when your own duffel bag was too full to make the trip back to the Bronx. Mike came home a few weeks later. But for reasons he never fully explained to his wife, Olga, he was never able to locate you to give them back. Mike died last June.

Press Release:
In a tirelessly repetitive age of rock where nearly every bands’ value system holds songwriting, tight-legged pants and blog devotion at the same level - The Bronx reminds us of how an aggressive yet catchy rock song done right is still capable of making the hair stand up on the back of our necks. As easy and simple as it seems, it’s nearly impossible to find a band in 2008 that makes truly exciting rock that is rooted in passion and intelligence, which is why The Bronx need to be held in the high regard they deserve. And on Tuesday night, while Americans coast-to-coast voted Barack Obama into the White House, singer Matt Caughthran (pictured) and guitarist Joby J. Ford stood on wet steps behind The Opera House and thanked their lucky stars.
“We’re feeling pretty safe,” Matt joked. “It could be a dangerous night in the States.”
“But hopefully things work out the way they should.”
The Bronx boys wouldn’t say who they voted for (they mailed in ballots while on tour this fall). But regardless of how the election unfolded, things are definitely working out for the west coast rockers these days. Read more..
