Very recently the MTA has been replacing the bus stop shelters along Pelham Parkway. They aren’t so different looking then the old ones; but they can be considered an upgrade!
These new shelters have seats on the inside of the shelters (for 3). Though the seating is limited; the roof design allows for pedestrians seated and those standing to share the same shelter space without being crammed up together on top of each other.
The built in seats of the shelter offer additional seating as there were seats already available on the sides of the old shelter. Seating is definitely needed at most these stops as Pelham Parkway bus stops are always crowded with waiting pedestrians.
The new shelter has a cool looking smoked glass roof and chrome style trim. The MTA still populates the large inner and outer display with advertising. The bus map and additional info has been moved under the shelter. Previously this was on the outside usually some distance away from the shelter.
These new shelters along Pelham Parkway look like something off of 5th avenue
