KLEIN HELPS BRING DOWN ILLEGAL ANTENNA

Klein Works With FCC to Bring Back Phone, Television and Internet Service in Bronx Neighborhood

Senator Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) solved a two and a half year problem of phone, television and internet interference across the entire 18-hundred block of  Radcliff Avenue.

A resident first contacted Klein’s office last August, saying a giant illegal antenna on his neighbor’s roof was interfering with his phone, internet and television connection. Whenever he picked up his phone, he would hear multiple conversations at different frequency levels.

Klein immediately contacted the FCC and explained the problem. In response, the FCC launched a detailed investigation, looking into who owned the home with the antenna. The FCC found out the landlord’s son was using the antenna and issued a cease and desist order. Klein also acted as a liaison between the FCC and neighbors, requesting neighbors to  record any interference and call in when they heard it.

The landlord’s son stopped using the antenna for about two weeks but then started up again. The FCC spoke to the landlord and requested the antenna be removed to avoid further complaints.

At the end of October, the FCC visited the house and took down the antenna.

“I want to thank the FCC and neighbors for banding together and assisting my office in resolving this problem. It’s very important that we are respectful to our neighbors by making sure our actions are not negatively interfering with the quality of life in our neighborhoods,” said Klein.

“After two and half years of being held hostage with the antenna and trying to resolve the problem, I am happy the antenna is down.  If  it wasn’t for Senator Klein, this would still be an ongoing issue,” said a Radcliff Avenue resident who wants to remain anonymous.

Child is rescued by neighbor Horia Cretan, known locally as “Billy.”

Horia Cretan’s bravery knows no bounds.

One day after the Good Samaritan pulled a 4-year-old boy from a burning Bronx building, he took a knee Thursday morning and proposed to his girlfriend - on live national television.

And she said yes.

“You know that I’m a handful already, we both know that,” Cretan said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” program. “I promise you one thing, there’s never going to be a dull moment.

“So therefore will you marry me anyway?”

His girlfriend, after agreeing, shared a kiss and a long hug with her new fiancee.

“You’re crazy, you know that?” she asked. “Yes,” he replied. Read more..

More trouble in the Bronx?

Another potential public relations snafu befell the poor Yankees Monday night - and yes, I mean that ‘poor Yankees’ somewhat sincerely, tongue only partially in-cheek.

I mean, sure, they priced some tickets way too high, considering the economy now, but they really couldn’t have foreseen that.

The embarrassingly empty seats must have their marketing department in a tizzy as to what to do, and now in an effort to seemingly help fans out, they left them out.

With inclement weather hitting the east coast, Monday night’s match-up with the bitter-rival Red Sox was delayed by rain for quite some time.

At a certain point, from unknown authorization, some stadium personnel, allegedly, told hundreds of paying customers that the game had been canceled.

Maybe intended as a kind gesture to allow those folks to head home and get out of the rain, that declaration of cancellation was incorrect.

So, of course, when the slew of fans that had left the park then found out the game was, in fact, going to be played, they tried getting back in - only to be rebuffed by the Yankee’s strict no re-entry policy.

Obviously it’s not something the organization wanted to have happen. Read more..

Bronx native Crosby gets lesson at McDonald’s game

Virginia-bound guard China Crosby ran the point for the West team, which beat the East, 69-68, on Wednesday night on the campus of the University of Miami

Most high-school hoops stars view the McDonald’s All-American Game as a chance to be on television, a few minutes in the limelight. Not China Crosby. The Manhattan Center girls’ basketball star called her days down in Coral Gables, Fla., “a lesson learned.”

“It’s not just about basketball,” Crosby said. “We had people telling us, ‘Just don’t get a big head about the game – remember where you came from.’” Read more..

Mets’ Wright: You can’t ever condone cheating

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - In a comparison of New York’s third basemen, it’s no contest. Alex Rodriguez is a three-time MVP, a 12-time All-Star and the favorite to one day wrest the home run crown from the head of Barry Bonds.

Then there is David Wright, whose still blossoming career is not tainted by the use of performance-enhancing drugs. That type of integrity, that purity, is something that A-Rod can never get back, never erase, no matter how many home runs he hits or how many trophies he collects.

Wright, at the age of 26, understands that and seeing A-Rod’s confession before a national television audience on Monday night brought to mind the consequences of bad decisions. Though Wright was leery of talking too much about his Bronx counterpart, he clearly was torn between his obvious disgust for cheaters and a somewhat fractured admiration for A-Rod.

“You can’t ever condone using banned substances,” Wright said. “You can’t ever condone cheating. But with that being said, I think he did a tremendous job owning up to it and I think his apology was sincere. Kids and fans alike can look at the mistake he made and take positives from that and learn from that. When you have a guy like that who sits down and shows that kind of emotion, is apologetic and admits that he made a mistake - it takes a man to do that.” Read more..
