Massive Bronx produce market prepares for Thanksgiving rush
NEW YORK - Monday is expected to be the busiest day of the year at a massive wholesale produce market in the Bronx as store owners get ready for Thanksgiving.
The Hunts Point terminal produce market is a main distribution point for almost everything New Yorkers will eat at Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday _ except the turkey. A spokesman for the market says that includes 80 million pounds of produce, 4 million pounds of sweet potatoes and 500,000 pounds of cranberries.
The squash, sweet potatoes, cranberries and apples began arriving from wholesalers on Sunday afternoon. On Monday retail distributors will buy and pick up the vegetables and fruits for supermarkets, greengrocers and other outlets
